Overview

Who we are
Whitley Bay Health Centre is an eight-doctor NHS GP practice based at 165 Whitley Road, Whitley Bay. We are led by Dr Colvin and Partners and are part of the Whitley Bay Primary Care Network (PCN). We are commissioned by the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Our practice has been recognised for excellence in continuity of care — Dr Luke Sayers won first place for a continuity of care poster at the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) annual conference. We were also recently featured in the British Journal of General Practice (BJGP).

Our aims
We aim to provide high-quality, personalised healthcare to all our patients. We believe in the importance of continuity of care — wherever possible, you should see your named GP at each appointment. If your named GP is unavailable, another doctor in the practice will see you.

We work in partnership with our patients and the wider health community to promote good health and prevent illness. We value your feedback and use it to improve the care we provide.

What we ask of our patients
We ask all patients to:

  • treat all practice staff with courtesy and respect — we have a zero-tolerance policy towards violence or abusive behaviour, which may result in removal from our list
  • cancel appointments as soon as possible if you cannot attend
  • allow 2 working days for repeat prescriptions to be processed
  • request home visits only if you are genuinely housebound or too ill to attend the surgery
  • tell us about any change of address so we can keep your records up to date

Our CQC rating
Whitley Bay Health Centre is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Our most recent inspection report is available on the CQC website. We are also proud to have received a Bronze Award for excellence.

Acceptable Behaviour

As an employer, the practice has a duty to care for the health and safety of its staff.

As with all employers we also have a legal responsibility to provide a safe and secure working environment for all staff.

All patients are expected to behave in an acceptable manner and violent or abusive behavior towards staff or patients may result in removal from our practice list or even criminal proceedings.

The practice follows the NHS guidance concerning Zero Tolerance.
